A 2007 research survey showed that only 12% of us had succeeded in keeping our New Year resolutions one year later. Like most attempts at self-help, failure to achieve the fantasy left most people with lower self-esteem than they had before.
Here's a better way to improve your life in the New Year. Instead of making resolutions, why not focus on doing what really matters to you most? You can do that by asking yourself what you would do with your life if you only had a definite time left to live.
Because what you might choose to do if you died next week reveals an awful lot about the things in life that are are really important to you:
Consider these questions:
a. What would you do if you only had one minute to live?
b. What would you do if you only had one hour to live?
c. What would you do if you only had one day to live?
d. What would you do if you only had one week to live?
e. What would you do if you only had one month to live?
f. What would you do if you only had one year to live?
Now - whatever your answers - how about making sure that you do ALL of those things during 2010? Or at least make a start on them?
A Happy New Year to all my readers!

As always John, you have given me something to think about. I will be giving these questions two lots of answers: my inital gut reaction responses and a more considered what would I 'really' do answers. Fionna
