While I was watching the film later John Lennon's fur coat did seem a little strange (I didn't know then that he was well into Heroin at the time). As did George Harrison's loon pants (ditto). But check out the contrast between the Fab Four and the puzzled coppers around them (and the office workers on the street below, wearing their NHS-standard spectacles, and carrying their lunch-boxes, coming out to find out what the anarchy is all about)
But my feeling then was about grief. It really seemed like I was saying goodbye to my childhood (a Bodymind perception that turned out to be true). I still feel sad watching this video.
Because the Beatles were associated in my mind with with energy, color, rebellion, wit and excitement. And a world without them seemed older, greyer, more forlorn...and adult.
I have spent my life resisting the injunction to 'just grow up will you!' (despite the pleas of my 19-year old daughter).
Later on, this weekend I want to write some more about the distinction between 'childish' and 'childlike'.
Meanwhile, check out the great video.
